WELLINGTON MONUMENT, Office of Works, 8c. Whitehall, London, 6th September, 1856. The Commissioners of Her Majesty:s Works and Public Buildings give Notice, that it is the intention of Her Majestys Government to erect a Monument in St. Paul:s Cathedral, London, to the Memory of the late Duke of Wellington, and tbat they are prepared to receive Designs for the same from Artists of all Countries. Persons desirous of competing, must send in Models onefourth of tbe size of the intended Monument, which is not to exeeed at the base 43 feet by 9 fect, Every Model, sent in, is to be inseribed witha Mouo; and an Enrvelope, with the same Motto on the outside, containing tbe name of the Compelitor, must be addressed 10 the First Commissioner of Her Majestys Works and Public Buildings, Whitehall, London. Each Competitor is to slåte the exact sum for which he will be prepared, if required, to ereet the Monument; and such sum must include all expenses, and not exceed 20,000 Sterling. The Monument to be made of Marble, Stone, Bronze, or Granite, or any of these materials combined; but if any Compelitor shall be desirous of using. any material other than Carrara Marble, the Model must be tinted in those parts in which any otber material is used, with the colour of such material. 5 The Models by Artists residing witbin the United Kingdom, must be delivered in London onor before the 4st of June, 4857; those by Artists residing abroad, on or before the Y5th of June, 4857. The Models are to be addressed to the First (Commissioner, ani delivered, carriage free, at Westminster Hall, or some otber public place to be hereafter determined, and duly advertised, where it is intended they shall be-exhibited in July, 41857 The Commissioners will not be-answerable for any damage or accident that may happen to the Models. The following Premiums will be given for the Nine most approved Designs. For the First . ss: Second ar Third 3. og Fourth Fifth. .... Sixth. os Seventh . . Eighth.... Ninth ..cc If, however, the Artist, to whom the highest Premium may be awarded, shall be employed to execute his Design, he mill not be entitled to receive any Premium.
